First Edition Two large quarto (8-1/2" x 11-1/2") volumes bound in contemporary half brown morocco leather and marbled boards with morocco corners, lettered in gilt on the spines, signed A. Macomie. Illustrated with 96 fine steel-engraved plates with tissue guards and 13 engraved maps including one folding. Brockedon describes in words, images, and maps 12 mountain passes including The Little St. Bernard; The Mont Genevre, The Mont Cenis, The Mont St. Gothard, The Great St. Bernard, The Stelvio, The Cornice, The Grimsel and the Gries, The Bernardin and The Splugen, The Brenner, The Tendre and The Argentiere, and The Simplon. Minimal foxing, slight darkening to the very edges of the plates, but a very clean, superior copy. Bindings with just light wear. Near Fine (Item ID: 017297)

Brockedon traversed the Alps 58 times, crossing more than 40 different passes, in the course of his researches.

We judge condition conservatively. All books are octavo First American or British editions in original bindings offered subject to prior sale unless otherwise noted. Dustwrappers present when described. All autographs are unconditionally guaranteed for life to be genuine. We attempt to note signatures and bookplates when present as well as any defect we see. In any case, any item may be returned, with prior notice, within 7 days of receipt for any reason. All returns should be shipped fully insured and prior notification should be given.

We request prepayment unless prior credit has been firmly established. Institutions can be billed to suit their needs.

Payment terms can be worked out for larger purchases. Don't be afraid to ask. Please include $11.00 postage for the first book and $6.00 for each additional book.

We will contact you for oversize, heavy, and/or international orders.

We cannot be responsible for uninsured parcels and recommend that you insure your purchases, costs which we can provide when you order. U.S. orders can be sent via UPS or U.S. Mail.

Overseas orders will be sent via priority, air, or private courier, depending upon value and customer's requirements at the approximate actual cost. We do not ship surface rate. PA residents must pay 6% sales tax.
