CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF

New York: Hart Stenographic Bureau, [1956?]. Softcover. Bound with two screws in burgundy leatherette covers (8-1/2" x 11"), the title lettered in gold, the number "14" written in ink at the top right corner of the title page. Original mimeographed rehearsal script of approximately 120 pages. This script shows substantial and important textual variants when compared with the published version, with much altered and added dialogue. A note at the end of the "Notes for the Designer," which does not appear in the printed version, states, "Possible cuts in the dialogue are enclosed by double parantheses." In fact much else is cut and altered. Good examples are at the end of the second act where the dialogue is dramatically changed and extended and the appearance of Big Daddy in the third act. The final lines of the play are more aligned with the printed Broadway version of the third act, as published in the New Directions first edition, rather than the published version, but even then there are quite a few differences in the dialogue and action. Near Fine. Item #022612
