Daniel Mann directed the original Broadway production of THE ROSE TATTOO after Elia Kazan turned down the job. The play won a Tony Award for best play. He also directed the 1955 film version which featured a screenplay co-written by Tennessee Williams and which won an Academy Award for Best Actress for Anna Magnani, for whom he wrote the original role of Serafina, one of three Oscars won by the film.
