AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT SIGNED (AMS)
Manuscript. Seven 8-5/8" x 13-1/4" smooth-finished sheets (the first page about a third of that size) handwritten by Frances Hodgson Burnett of the ORIGINAL SIGNED MANUSCRIPT of most of her short story "A Little Faun" from her 1892 book GIOVANNI AND THE OTHER: CHILDREN WHO HAVE MADE STORIES, a collection of short stories based on the real experiences of Burnett's children and those she met while traveling in Europe. This particular story is based on a real toddler who lived on Burnett's street in Washington, D.C and is considered to be the inspiration for the famous character Dickon in THE SECRET GARDEN. The pages are numbered 7 through 13 and comprise the last 6 pages of the 11-page story. Occasional pencil notes of identification. Lot 104 in the 1929 Anderson Galleries sale SELECTIONS FROM THE LIBRARY OF EDWARD GOLDMAN NEW YORK CITY comprised a 63-page signed manuscript titled "Giovanni and the Other," the title story of this volume, but we were unable to locate a sale of the present manuscript. Manuscripts by this famous children's book writer are scarce. Pages are currently rolled; soiling and some wear. Very Good. Item #022545
Frances Hodgson Burnett was the author of more than 30 books, most notably A LITTLE PRINCESS, THE SECRET GARDEN, and LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY.
