AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS) Listing Fellow 19th Century Luminaries
19 February 1863. Letter. One page on a 5" x 7-7/8" sheet addressed to "Sir" and SIGNED "W. C. Bryant." A remarkable letter in which Bryant lists the names of a number of famous contemporaries. In full: "Enclosed is the photograph [not present] for which you have asked. Parke Godwin lived in New York; R. H. Dana in Boston; Lowell in Cambridge, and R. W. Emerson in Concord, both in Massachusetts. Story [William Wetmore Story], the sculptor, is at Rome. Powell [William Henry Powell] the painter, I think, may be in New York. I do not know Hawthorne's address, but he's somewhere in Massachusetts. Of Longfellow as the widows of Judge Story, T. Parker and W. H. Prescott I only know that they are somewhere in the neighborhood of Boston." Normal folds from mailing. Fine, bold and dark. Item #022535
