AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS) Addressing Rumors and Mentioning Titles of her Books
Washington DC: 1 July 1968. Letter. Fine three-page AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS) on three sides of two 5-3/4" x 5-3/4" sheets to a Mr. Flack. In part: "I was never in any Mack Sennett comedies, and never even saw more than three of them. I am afraid you have read some vulgar and stupid books about me written by people I never saw or heard of -- the latest and worst by some fool named Hendricks-- another by a certain Nance-- It is so good of you, so refreshing to have you ask this question instead of just accepting their slanders. I can even trace this Sennett myth.... For a time I was in Hollywood writing.... My photographer George Platt Lynes was there working for VOGUE, I believe, and he remarked that I looked like a twin for Phyllis? Haver, His favorite Mack Sennett bathing beauty.... And to this day the myth has never died-- I hope you will help to destroy it. It is just so silly." She goes on to discuss cooking, flowers, and her writing. "There are several companies now asking for moving picture rights to my stories -- Keir Dullea especially for PALE HORSE, PALE RIDER. Sam Peckinpah did a fine job (TV) of NOON WINE-- But I am afraid of film since the shocking mess they made of my SHIP OF FOOLS." Fine. Item #022532
