NO SIRREE! An Anonymous Entertainment Playbill, by the Vicious Circle of the Hotel Algonquin, 49th Street Theater, Sunday Evening April 30th, 1922, Theater courtesy of Messrs. Shubert

New York: Golden PTG Service, 1922. First Edition. Framed Broadside. A 5-1/2" x 23-1/4" broadside matted and framed to 10-1/4" x 28-1/2" serving as the original playbill for this famous one-night performance of what is considered the foundational document of the Algonquin Round Table. All of the members of the club--actors, writers, artists--wrote and/or acted in the performance which was reviewed the next day by various celebrities. Performers included Franklin P. Adams, Tallulah Bankhead, Robert C. Benchley, Heywood Broun, Marc Connelly, Helen Hayes, Jascha Heifetz, George S. Kaufman, Neysa McMein, Alice Duer Miller, Dorothy Parker, Harold Ross, Robert E. Sherwood, Donald Ogden Stewart, and Alexander Woollcott. Benchley performed, for the first time, "The Treasurer's Report," which so impressed an audience member, Irving Berlin, that he hired Benchley to perform it as part of his Music Box Revue, marking the beginning of a second career for Benchley in Hollywood. Only one copy of this rare and important piece of ephemera has appeared at auction in the last 100 years (Freeman's 2021). Depicted on page 63 of the book WIT'S END. DAYS AND NIGHTS OF THE ALGONQUIN ROUND TABLE by James R. Gaines. Has been examined out of the frame with no significant defects found, only rather light creases from being folded. Very Good.
