Copy #20 of only 75 INITIALED by the President "F.D.R." on the colophon page, this a Presentation copy also INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the President on the front endpaper: "For Harry H. Woodring/With a Happy Christmas from/Franklin D. Roosevelt." An especially poignant inscription to Roosevelt's former Secretary of War just days after the invasion of Pearl Harbor. Slight browning to gutters. Close to Fine in a Very Good slipcase lacking most of the top edge. Item #021115

Harry Hines Woodring (1887-1967) served as Governor of Kansas from 1931 to 1933 at which point he was appointed Assistant Secretary of War under Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1936 he was promoted to Secretary of War by Roosevelt, serving until 1940.
