New York: Limited Editions Club, 1959. hardcover. Folio (9" x 12") bound in half black morocco leather and red cloth with a black morocco inset on the front cover of the LEC logo. Illustrated with 200 examples of title pages, text pages, and illustrations reproduced by the same processes used in the original editions by artists such as Arthur Rackham, Thomas Hart Benton, and many more. Printed by the Thistle Press and A. Colish, as well as special printers for many of the inserts. Designed by Robert L. Dothard. Copy #1554 of 2250, issued unsigned. This copy with two unusual points: It is signed on the front endpaper by Gordon Carroll, publisher of the Club when it operated out of Avon, CT, and laid in is a prospectus for the book, a folio sheet folded in thirds, with samples from the book as well as content information. We have handled a couple of dozen or so copies of this title over 25 years and this is the first time we have encountered this prospectus. Fine in a Very Good slipcase with a split along the back edge. Item #016345
