With a foreword by U. S. Senator Lyndon Johnson. Illustrated with photographs. With a full-page INSCRIPTION SIGNED by the future President on the front endpaper: "To Tom Schmidt --/ with appreciation of his/friendship, good Counsel/and support --/from his Gillespie/County neighbor/Lyndon B Johnson/USS Texas/Aug 27, 1956." Books genuinely signed by LBJ are quite scarce, and most of those are copies of THE VANTAGE POINT, usually signed on a bookplate. Early titles such as this with contemporary inscriptions are uncommon on the market.

Illustrated with photographs. The Limited Edition but without the statement of limitation on the verso of the half-title page and without the signed page tipped in. Rather this copy has an Eisenhower Farm bookplate noting the title of the book and the publication date: 14 October 1965. The bookplate is pasted on the half-title page with the printed dedication "For Edgar" and is INSCRIBED AND SIGNED by the author: Devotedly/Ike E./Merry Christmas." Edgar was Dwight's elder brother and was much more conservative in his viewpoints. Tellingly, the book appears to be unread. A very small number of the limited edition was issued without the limitation statement, and these were inscribed by the author to family and close friends. Wonderful Association Copy.
